Policy Proposal
In order to prevent, track, and stop the persistence of sexual assault, and sex trafficking among foster care youth, we must set strict policies to be followed by CPS, DHS, and all Foster care agencies. These are policies such as similarly stated in Public-Law 113-183, Identifying and Protecting Children and Youth at Risk of Sex Trafficking, Identifying, documenting, and determining services for children and youth at risk of sex trafficking, Reporting instances of sex trafficking, Locating and responding to children who run away from foster care, etc.
This would best benefit the youth if this was received by our state representatives, and potentially even federal government.
The policy would include requirements for sexual education among all foster children, giving them the basis to understand they own their bodies. Requiring all foster homes, and group homes to be placed in low or moderate crime areas, to lower the risk of it being in highly active sex trafficking area. Requiring any and sexual assault done by a foster family member to be reported, and taken to court, if proven guilty, said foster family should have their fostering license removed after the first occurrence keeping other potential victims out of the home. Requiring the response to runaway foster kids to be within 12 hours rather than 24-48. These are just the surface of the solutions that should be included to help this horrible scene of injustice. After completion of the Policies, I would like to submit it to local government, and state representatives, hopefully, creating awareness, providing education, and offering a way to help the children of the foster care system.
