Socialization and Mask Project
This project was built for the students to see how outside forces impact who we are, how we act, etc. It was made to show us how WE have been impacted by society, and how our actions have impacted other. The project helped us explore the idea of "normal," and the idea of "perfection." Most of all this project gave the students a look into JUDGMENT, and STEREOTYPES. How we have been judged, and how we judge others based on the stereotypes coincide with who they are.
As a writer there is always room to grow, which is something I did while writing my Socialization essay. I became better at adding interesting hooks. One of the things I wrote at the beginning of the year started like, “The Exceptional Student Service program has three new faces this year”, not the best right? My socialization essay started “Humans are creatures of habit, one harmful habit we continue in is the cycle of Socialization.” Not only is it longer it is definitely a stronger, and more interesting hook. I started with a very dull obvious statement, in the next assignment I took my time to think of a more impactful, and complex way to bring people into my writing.
This project has given me the ability to I see how deeply the impact of judgment. While creating my mask I had to take a step back and deeply look into who I actually was, and who I felt I had to be. Looking at myself helped me realize how it impacts others. It taught me that I need to look deeper to know people the way they truly are. Writing my essay, and designing my mask, helped me see deep into the idea of “perfection.” It helped me see what other saw as “perfect.” Which was commonly unaccomplishable.
My goal for working in groups, was to find a better way to separate work through out members of the group. When we first developed our groups for the exhibition planning, we had to make a poster, I had everyone say which section they would like to work on. Each person was then given their task (the one they wanted to work on), and the poster was completed within the time it was supposed to. I believe our success is due to the fact everyone got to work on what they wanted to, and everyone had something to work on.
I believe I was a leader during the exhibition. Mainly because of how I decided how to separate the tasks out, and how I made sure they were being accomplished. I had lead our group to critique our posters, and out logo. This contributed to the success of the exhibition, because I made sure everything was being finish, and to make sure we were only putting our best work out there. I would grade my effort highly, because after helping my group put the best work out we could, I advised that we all join another group which helped the other groups when working on building their rooms.
